fish a river
catch a trout
earn your swag
There’s not a baseball cap wearer alive who hasn’t looked at the logo on the front and thought, “Shoot, they should pay me for wearing this.”
And in a fairer world, they would. All that free advertising they get the moment you cram that thing on your head and leave the house? Something’s not right.
Well, here’s an honorable exception. A cap that comes resentment-free and triggers only happy thoughts.
A cap that’s all about you.
If you fish one of our Montana fly fishing rivers and catch a trout on one of those rivers, then (and only then) do you earn the right to a hat.
Send me proof by filling out the form and uploading a picture of that Montana trout you caught and for $29.95 and I’ll get your hat to you.
Long after you returned the fish and the photos become buried somewhere on your hard drive, that cap will be good to go whenever you are. A lifelong reminder of one of the best fishing trips of your life and what you had to do to earn it.
That’s why hats that look like they’ve been in the path of a stampede still wind up on our heads when we venture out. It’s not because of how they make us look but how they make us feel.
I still have the cap they gave me when I became a Hotshot wildland firefighter. My running hat nowadays, it’s come along for the ride for hundreds of miles and it looks like it. Yet only when it comes apart in my hands will I give it up.
Its successor will be the hat I had made for a fishing trip of my own. With some friends, I hiked 40 miles into the Bob Marshall Wilderness and we then rode horses for 30 miles back out. In between came more fish than we could count.
